The Southern Baptist Convention opened its annual meeting in Phoenix Tuesday behind a strong pro-family message.
The nation's largest Protestant denomination is dedicating its two-day meeting to preserving marriage and strengthening families.
President Bush today addressed the meeting by videotape, calling Southern Baptists "faithful servants'' and asking God to bless them. Bush drew attention to his $15 billion initiative to fight AIDS overseas and vowed to continue to "hunt down'' terrorists.
The Rev. Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, is president of the convention. He's expected to be reelected to a second one-year term.
