Heavy rains didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those in attendance at the grand opening of Duke Energy's new Enterprise power plant.
The $230 million facility will be used to provide power during peak times of the year, like the summer, when more electricity is used.
The plant will not help much with Clarke County's unemployment problem. At 19.3 percent, its currently the highest rate in the state. The plant only employs nine people. But county officials expect it to provide $10 million dollars in taxes to the county rolls over the next decade.
County officials hope this will not be the last bit of good news they'll have. They say they are currently negotiating with at least two other major industries, and hope they'll have announcements within the next couple of months.
