A candidate for sheriff in Neshoba County faces several traffic violation charges, including reckless driving.
Authorities say Jimmy McDaniel, 55, is free on bond after being charged with speeding, having an expired inspection sticker, failure to yield to blue lights and reckless driving.
McDaniel was stopped by the highway patrol on Sunday. He is one of four candidates for Neshoba County sheriff.
McDaniel says state trooper Eddie Hunt arrested him only because the trooper is supporting one of his opponents. McDaniel also denied he was guilty of any charge other than speeding.
Hunt would not comment on the arrest or McDaniel's allegations.
McDaniel finished second in the 1999 Neshoba County sheriff's race. He was in the Democratic runoff with current Sheriff Glen Waddell.
