Mississippi Can Afford to Vie for Another Auto Plant, Trent Lott Says

The Mississippi Republican said today that the benefit of attracting Nissan to his home state outweighed the cost.

Mississippi gave Nissan North America Incorporated 363 (M) million dollars in direct incentives to build an auto assembly plant in Canton.

There's no doubt Mississippi could use more high-paying automotive industry jobs and more employers like Nissan, which will have as 5,300 workers in Canton a year from now.

Lott says that Kia Motors Corporation is the next international auto maker that will be looking to locate in the United States.

Kia is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, which is building an assembly plant near Montgomery, Alabama, and is considering Alabama for a research and design center.
