"Up, Up and Away!"

Friday morning balloons were released to mark the last day of the library's summer reading program. There were 97 participants in this year's program. Organizers say summer reading is very important for children.

"When kids are out for the summer they seem to have nothing to do. Keeping them interested in reading books helps them to promote themselves because when they go back to school, their reading level has picked up a whole lot," said Anissa McCarty, head librarian.

As part of Friday's festivities, Clarke County supervisors rolled up their sleeves and co-sponsored a special cookout for participants.
