An employee of Meridian High School was detained by Meridian police and then turned over to Tuscaloosa County authorities Tuesday afternoon.
According to University of Alabama police, Larry Hutchins is charged with three counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.
MHS principal R.D. Harris said Hutchins had worked in the personnel office for a couple of months.
"He did a good job for us and then he also did some volunteer coaching," Harris said. "He's suspended with pay pending further action by the courts."
Harris said background checks are done on all potential employees, but sometimes details in someone's personal life are not revealed. University police say they cannot discuss details of an ongoing investigation.
