Republican gubernatorial candidate Haley Barbour made a campaign stop in Meridian Monday, to open his local campaign headquarters at 2207 5th Street.
In a speech to supporters, Barbour talked about bringing jobs to east central Mississippi and made mention of a failed bid by the state to provide a site for a Hyundai automotive plant in Pelahatchie.
"There's no way in the world that a governor should insist on his favorite location to the exclusion of all others when we're trying to bring jobs in to help the people of Mississippi," said Barbour. "And I'll just tell you right now, as governor I will make sure that east central Mississippi gets a fair shake and that sites over here that are potentially sites for mega projects get the same chance as everybody else does."
Barbour faces attorney Mitch Tyner in the GOP primary on August 5.
