One of Newton County's oldest homes has a new home of its own.

The McElroy-Hoye House has been located at a spot on East Church Street next to First Baptist Church for well over a hundred years.

But the structure was recently moved by the Newton Historical Cultural Commission to property across the street to allow for renovations.

The project has been broken into phases, the first including the relocation and exterior work.

"We are hoping that when people see that we can move it, and that we are moving forward they will also help us," said Dorothy Turnage.

The group is currently trying to raise enough money to apply for matching grants in order to begin working on the home's interior.
