Mississippi health officials confirmed Tuesday a second human case of St. Louis encephalitis, a mosquito-borne illness similar to West Nile virus.

Health officials say the encephalitis case was diagnosed in a Forrest County resident. The virus has symptoms ranging from slight fever and headaches to disorientation, coma and tremors.

The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta confirmed the first case in Hinds County last month. Also Tuesday, health officials said a bird in Tunica County tested positive for West Nile virus, as did a mosquito pool in Tate County.

Four birds have tested positive for the virus in Harrison County. No human cases have been reported with West Nile virus this year in Mississippi.
