Macon Mayor Dorothy Hines says Bob Boykin, city street commissioner and alderman, and Richard Schimmel, superintendent of the electric department, allegedly violated state law by allowing city employees to work on private property.
Hines says the incident was investigated by the state auditor's office.
According to the mayor, work such as using a bucket truck to hang a sign for a local business was authorized by the employees.
Hines says the violation of the state law was not intentional. She said how much the employees will be fined will be determined after auditors evaluate such things as the amount of time spent, the equipment used and the hourly wage of the employee.
