A 34-year-old man took his own life after walking into his ex-wife's daycare center in Clinton Friday and threatening to kill her.
Police Chief Don Byington said several children and at least two employees were at the Precious Memories Childcare and Development Center, but that all were evacuated without injury.
Byington identified the man as Charles McClendon of Clinton. He did not release the name of the woman, who operates the child care center.
Witnesses said McClendon arrived in a cab, entered the business with a pistol and threatened both his former wife and himself. He later entered a room and closed the door.
Byington said after evacuating the children and workers, police heard a gunshot and found McClendon dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
