Plans to four lane Highway 19 North from Meridian to Philadelphia have been approved and the process has begun.
The announcement came Monday from central district transportation commissioner dick hall.
"No more discussing it, arguing about whether this is the next thing we're going to do," said Hall. "As we told everybody, if you pass the Vision 21, the plan passed by the legislature for the next 20 year program of new four lane highways in Mississippi, that if that was passed this was going to be our number one priority in this part of the state. And it is our number one and we're underway."
Hall said the required environmental study has been completed and approved by the federal government.
The next step is acquiring the right of way and that will begin soon.
