A tornado struck in Jasper County, just south of the Newton County line, damaging several homes. It was the second night of severe weather in Mississippi.

Garlandville is in the northeastern part of Jasper County and suffered heavy damage. A storm that spawned a tornado actually started near Montrose in the southern part of Jasper County.

The damage is almost unbelievable. The residents say they are just happy that no one was seriously injured.

"I was just thanking God that I was able to get to the door, able to run, able to get up and use the activities on my limbs because I could have been asleep," said Cosha Bramlett of Garlandville.

"My dad had got up and said, he started hollering, 'get in the bath tub! Get in the bath tub!' I was asleep," said Henry Hall. "My mama grabbed me and another baby, and she covered up in the bath tub. My daddy got something off the futon, and he covered himself up."

The storm that spawned this tornado is a little piece of the same storm that spawned the tornado in Magee, Miss.,earlier Thursday.

The National Weather Service had a damage survey team on the ground in Jasper County. Officials said the tornado was likely an upper limit EF1 with winds that rivaled that of a category 3 hurricane.
