A Night to Remember

Celebrations came in all kinds as election results rolled into Howard Johnson Motor Lodge Tuesday night. Justin Cobb, the Republican nominee for county attorney, got a little wet when his supporters found out he won. He was pushed into the pool.

"Its a great feeling. All the work paid off," said Cobb. "I thank all my supporters, my family, my wife and the great Lord above. Thanks for so many people who have prayed for me during this time."

The highly competitive race for District One supervisors is not over. Sidney Covington and Eddie Harper will face each other in a runoff Aug. 26.

"Eddie and I are going to work together in a hand holding kind of way," said Covington. "Were not opponents. Were working for the same thing, Lauderdale County."

Wallace Heggie lost his race for chancery clerk, giving Ann Wilson Hayes another four years in a position she loves.

"Thank you to all my supporters for what they did for me, for all my family, especially my three sons," said Hayes. "Without all of them I could not have done this."

But it wasn't all victories. Despite a hard-fought race, Andy Davis was defeated for his nomination as county attorney.

"I thank Justin for running a clean race and I wish him the best of luck,"
Davis said.

No matter the results, spirits remained high, friends remained friends and the campaigning continued. After all, there is another election to be won just three months away.
