A suspect in a home invasion was arrested this weekend, about a day after the incident.
Johnny Frank Gowdy, 40, has been charged with breaking into a house in the Lauderdale community and tying up a 72-year-old woman.
Sheriff Billy Sollie said citizens in the community helped identify Gowdy.
"He was located at a club in Lauderdale. When he was approached by deputies, he broke and ran into the wooded area. Forty-five minutes later, he was taken into custody by deputies," said Sollie. "We believe, because it was the first of the month, he felt that possibly a check had arrived and money was in the home. However, the victim indicated no money was taken, but is reporting some personal jewelry was taken from the home."
Gowdy is registered as a sex offender on the Mississippi sex registry website. He served time for a rape and assault conviction in Pike County.
Gowdy has had a Lauderdale address since January. His bond was set at $76,500.
