Habitat Opens "Re-Store"

Representatives of Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity cut the ribbon Friday on the organization's newest fundraising project, the "habitat re-store."

The store at the corner of 8th Street and 29th Avenue in Meridian is the 62nd one of its kind in the country.

Executive director Fonda Rush said it will likely generate $100,000 this year, which will be a big financial boost.

"Right now we build about three or four homes per year and we want to increase over the next five years to 10 houses per year," said Rush. "$100,000 could build almost three homes."

Funding for the habitat store came from community bank and a $50,000 matching grant from the Riley Foundation.
