Guard Units Preparing for Duty

Nearly 500 Mississippi Army National Guard members were told Thursday that they could be mobilized for duty in the Mideast and South Asia.

The six state units receiving alert notifications were:

Company G, 185th Aviation of Meridian, with approximately 145 members.

The 298th Corps Support Battalion of Philadelphia, with approximately 55 members.

The 114th Army Liaison Team of Greenville, with approximately 25 members.

The 112th Military Police Battalion of Canton, with approximately 60 members.

The 185th Aviation Group of Jackson, with approximately 85 members.

The 114th Area Support Group of Hattiesburg, with approximately 125 members.

The units are part of 43,000 Army Reserve and National Guard personnel across the nation that could be sent as a part of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Guard spokesman Maj. Danny Blanton said a deployment order will have to be issued before the units are sent. He said until then, they will "begin making sensible plans and preparations if they are required to mobilize.''

That includes readying equipment and personnel, and updating training.

The Mississippi National Guard has about 2,200 personnel on active duty with about 1,500 serving overseas.
