Fifth grade students from Oakland Heights Elementary School just returned from a trip of a lifetime.

They spent the better part of this week in Washington, D.C., getting a chance to see the nation's capital, and learn a bit about the nation's history.

\The students got to visit many of the top tourist attractions before heading late home Thursday.

"The experience I think they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives because it's a once in a lifetime thing," said Sam Simmons, a fifth grade teacher. "They get to see, for example, Mt. Vernon, where our very first President lived Just a chance to see our country, from where it began to where we are right now."

About fifty students, chaperons and teachers took part in this week's trip.
