Thousands of yellow ribbons with the names of veterans who served in the past and the names of those who now serve in the military are being hung on this year's Veterans Memory Tree.
The tree is located on Highway 19 South at the entrance to Bonita Lakes Park.
Organizers say the tree is one way to preserve the memory of those who ensure our freedom.
"Everybody has a name and everybody needs to be remembered by name," said Lou Pennebaker, founder of the Memory Tree Foundation. "Nobody's unknown. We should never forget anybody that served this country in the past or the present. So that's why it's important that these ribbons have names of people who served and now serve."
The hanging of the ribbons is an annual event sponsored by the Memory Tree Foundation.
