Reeves Gets Rival Support

State treasurer candidate Tate Reeves picked up an endorsement Thursday from the man who finished third in the August 5 Republican primary.

State Rep. Andrew Ketchings said he and Reeves share the same conservative vision of how Mississippi's money should be handled.

Reeves, who's a banker, faces Wayne Burkes, a former state transportation commissioner, in the Aug. 26 GOP runoff.

Burkes and Reeves were guests of the Lauderdale County Republican Women Thursday.

"I believe that I can provide quality leadership with honor and integrity," said Burkes. "And your vote and your influence can help us do that."

Reeves also spoke to the group and campaigned earlier this week in Meridian.

Democrats also have a runoff next Tuesday in the treasurer's race, between former state fiscal officer Gary Anderson and state Senator Rob Smith.

The nominees advance to the November 4 general election.
