Around 10 a.m. Thursday investigators with the Marengo County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at 13074 on County Road 44. Upon arrival they found two people dead inside the home.
Although the investigation is still underway, Sheriff Jesse Langley tells us that at least one of the victims suffered a gunshot wound. The victims have been identified as 52-year-old Ida Little and her three-year-old granddaughter.
Although investigators say it's too early to comment on a motive, family and friends think they have an idea.
"It wasn't like he was let in," says family friend and neighbor Reverend Kenneth Raby. "He broke in and doors are meant for honest people someone like that a door wouldn't make a difference."
To make matters worse investigators say the victims were the mother and daughter of a woman who is in the Army National Guard and now serving in Iraq. They say the grandmother had been keeping the three-year-old and her older brother and sister, who are ages 7 and 10, since their mother left in February. We're told that Wanda Little has been notified and should be home by tomorrow.
At this time investigators say they cannot comment on where the other two children were when the incident happened. However, they tell us that both are now in the custody of another family member.
Meanwhile, at last check no arrests had been made.
"Do you expect to make any arrests very soon or have any suspects in mind?
Well, at this time everybody is a suspect!" says Sheriff Jesse Langley.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Marengo County Sheriff's Department at (334) 295-4208.
