The local Salvation Army is now conducting its "Christmas in July" campaign. Through Saturday volunteers will be accepting donations at local stores. As in previous years, organizers say so far this summer, donations are down.
"The needs don't go down during the summertime," said Captain Joe Mure', Salvation Army. "We get donations during the holidays during the holidays like every other non-profit group but the summertime is when people typically think of vacations and it falls off nationally."
Each month Captain Mure' says the Salvation Army gives away at least five tons of food to families in need. To meet daily demands he says they need to raise at least $20,000 during this campaign.
