Leadership Lauderdale is a program designed to develop grassroots leaders in Lauderdale County, who work and serve together to build a thriving community.
Twenty-seven men and women graduating Wednesday say they worked hard to get where they are now.
"There are lots of things that need to be done," said graduate Bertha Roberts. "And you can do a lot of things. When you help somebody in the community, it helps everybody."
The Meridian Navy League is one of the organizations Leadership Lauderdale has helped. League president Bill Johnson said program graduates have helped his organization grow in the last year.
"They have really done and there are many others on that committee that are graduates of Leadership Lauderdale," said Johnson. "And it really helped our Navy League do what it's done this year."
Former Gov. William Winter spoke to the leadership graduates, telling them that it's important for them to make waves to make progress.
"They understand how important it is that they be involved in community affairs, volunteerism, and doing the things that make life better for all of the people," Winter said.
Leadership Lauderdale will welcome more members soon for its 2003-2004 session.
