Parade Without the Mess

Thursday's Christmas parade in Meridian will have floats, bands and Santa Claus. What it hopefully won't have is messy streets.

Betty Lou Jones told the Meridian City Council that litter boxes and free garbage bags will be available to help make the event "litter free".

"At the end of the parade, the last unit in the parade will be a Waste Management truck and their workers who will come along and pick up the bags in the containers that are placed along the parade route," said Jones. "There will be containers at each intersection and even if you can't find the containers just put your bags out along the street and they'll pick that up."

The idea is sponsored by the Keep America Beautiful Commission, whose representatives will wear red shirts and Santa Claus hats.
