The Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and the Meridian Police Department are all taking part in the bi-annual national "You drink, you drive, you lose" campaign.
The campaign will run from Dec. 9 through Jan. 4.
"People who get out and drink and drive are impaired, obviously, and are liable to miss a stop sign, traffic light and hit somebody that's trying to get from one place to another or they could run off the road and hit trees or bridges and hurt or kill themselves," said Capt. Keith McCary.
The campaign's goal is to reduce alcohol-related traffic fatalities in the U.S. to no more than 11,000 by 2005.
