The personal attacks were on during the live Meridian Mayoral debate between democratic candidate Percy Bland and Republican candidate Cheri Barry.
While they discussed the issues, plans to improve the educational system and their vision for downtown, you couldn't help but notice the fireworks.
"If you wanna take ti there we can, Percy. So don't talk about my supporters unless you want to talk about your own," Barry said.
Bland claims Barry has ties to the establishment in the city But Barry says so does Bland.
"Mary Peavey and Hartley were against the school bond issue, which you fought for...what type of message is that sending I don't understand," Barry said. Bland responds: "Of course you wouldn't understand because I'm creating common ground," Bland said.
"If you like to discuss voter fraud, we can do that too," Barry said.
Barry says Bland has only lived in the city limits for six months. He owns a home in Marion, and Bland says he voted in a city election.
"And even the Secretary of state Delbert Hosemann has written both myself and her camp letters to let them know there is no voter fraud," Bland said.
But both candidates wanted to keep promoting their messages.
"We will be busting out of the seams at the growth of Meridian, Mississippi," Barry said.
'"Will move this city forward by focusing on all of the residents and we will grow together," Bland said.

COME ON MERIDIAN HERE WE GOT A BLACK PRESIDIENT! WELL LOOK FOR HEAVEN SAKE EVEN PHILEDELPHIA,MS GOT A BLACK MAYOR AND WE ALL KNOW HOW RACIST THEY ARE SURELY WE CAN MAKE HISTORY IN MERIDIAN AND ELECT THE FIRST BLACK MAYOR. LET'S GO MERIDIAN
Let's try this again I previouly sent my comment in regarding Mrs. Barry and her racist comment and it didn't get posted. To me she is just saying what she think we as "blacks" want to here. EX: The lady remember her when she was working for the welfare dept and picked her up in her car and she will never forget that not to mention so many people have learn to love her because she has been good to them from working with the welfare dept. I WAS OFFENDED NOT IMPRESS! That was here way of saying she has bonded with the black folks. That statement along was racist and it tells me a lot about you. YOU WILL NOT BE GETTING MY VOTE. VOTE FOR PERCY VOTE FOR PERCY
It is amazing to me that a mayoral candidate can say she will build a park for African American families and people are okay with it. All this talk about speech patterns and representing the people. If you have been anywhere outside of this place you will know that both candidates have speech issues based on how the rest of the country speaks. That should not even be an issue. Politics are for everyday people. As Mrs. Barry says in one of her commercials she is not a politician but her southern accent is extremely pronounced and some of her grammar well lets just say she could use some coaching. I do hope whomever wins will truly take on the real problem in this community and that is the racial, and class divide that is the root of so many of our problems.
