Let's try this again I previouly sent my comment in regarding Mrs. Barry and her racist comment and it didn't get posted. To me she is just saying what she think we as "blacks" want to here. EX: The lady remember her when she was working for the welfare dept and picked her up in her car and she will never forget that not to mention so many people have learn to love her because she has been good to them from working with the welfare dept. I WAS OFFENDED NOT IMPRESS! That was here way of saying she has bonded with the black folks. That statement along was racist and it tells me a lot about you. YOU WILL NOT BE GETTING MY VOTE. VOTE FOR PERCY VOTE FOR PERCY

It is amazing to me that a mayoral candidate can say she will build a park for African American families and people are okay with it. All this talk about speech patterns and representing the people. If you have been anywhere outside of this place you will know that both candidates have speech issues based on how the rest of the country speaks. That should not even be an issue. Politics are for everyday people. As Mrs. Barry says in one of her commercials she is not a politician but her southern accent is extremely pronounced and some of her grammar well lets just say she could use some coaching. I do hope whomever wins will truly take on the real problem in this community and that is the racial, and class divide that is the root of so many of our problems.

"Mr Peavy is against any growth in Meridian that does not directly benifit him... He is against spending money on education..." FYI- Here is a short list of some of the things the Peaveys have done for our local schools this year: Peavey provided guest speakers in a West Lauderdale Elementary art class, invited class and parents on a field trip at Peavey, gave away prizes to the top 3 designs: OCC Pack, Rockmaster, Game Controller Donated recorders to ALL 4th grade students in Meridian, MS including city, county, private and home school students as part of Carnegie Hall's LinkUp! program Over 4,000 bookbags donated to elementary children in Meridian Public Schools and Lauderdale County Public Schools Donated 11 field trips for elementary students, lunch included, to the Riley Center, Jackson, NAS Meridian $10k educational fund for the Kennedy Center How much has Cheri DONATED for this city during her 54 years? She has been PAID for her time with the Red Cross.

If Percy thinks Education is so important, let's start with him. His speech and grammatical errors are awful. I hate to picture him traveling to DC to ask for money as a representitive of this city. Cheri Barry will be the best Mayor...she has it all...business sense, compassion, and love for this city.

Percy Bland keeps announcing that he is the "education candidate." What does that mean exactly? That he believes education is important. Does anyone NOT? I am afraid he doesn't realize that as mayor he will only be responsible for appointing board members. Yes, that is important but he/she will have no direct influence on education. Clean up our neighborhoods; and I don't mean the litter, abandoned houses, pothoes, etc. I am voting for the candidate who has real solutions to real problems: bringing parenting classes to those in need, working with the housing authority to enforce mandatory compliance to laws in our city, getting kids off the streets by enforcing a curfew, etc....

I know Cheri and Rick Barry and they are some of the most honest and nicest down-to-earth people you would ever want to meet. While I believe last night, Cheri made some mis-steps in her comments, I think some were also misunderstood. Percy is very smooth in his comments and says alot of what people want to hear, but a smooth talker doesn't constitute a good mayor. His involvement with the EMBDC troubles me, as I don't think they've showed me much they've done, but taxpayers sure are paying them well! MERIDIAN voters need SPECIFICS people!! Cassandra Sloan didn't get in the runoff, to me, because she always said "I have a plan" too many times, but wouldn't explain any sort of SPECIFICS of those plans...anyone off the street can say "I have a plan". Meridian's future is also up to us, the people, we need to become more positive about making changes to this city, there's too much negativity. Something Meridian DESPERATELY needs to change, our attitude on moving our city ahead.

Percy had obviously been coached. Cheri Barry will make a great Mayor!

Hey, Jason Armstrong - quit posting Pro-Percy comments under anonymous names. Percy talks like a 5th grader anyway.

I have been fortunate enough to be visited at my home by both candidates. I find it sad to report that while Mr. Bland spent his time sharing his vision and plan for Meridian, Ms. Berry spent her time tearing down Mr. Bland. It made me quickly realize what kind of administration I would have with each candidate and which one I will be voting for. I have observed Ms. Barry's type of behavior far too many times in our City and it disheartens me that we can't get past that type of behavior. Not to be idealistic, but I am a huge believe in the Golden Rule and that to earn respect, you must first give it. Disrespect to me is one of the biggest character flaws a person can have. Again, this is just my opinion but I will be voting based on that opinion next week.

I resent Mrs. Barry trying to exclude those of us who have not lived in Meridian all of our lives. Are we not a part of this community and therefore have no voice? I pay taxes here and support local businesses. Why am I not as important as someone that was born here?

No body wants to address the real problem with Meridian. The real problem people move out to the county from the city is the difference in taxes. You pay over twice the amount for car tags and on your land taxes. The real problem with Meridian is too much old money. They don't want higher paying jobs in here because all of your police officers and firefighters would leave so they could take care of their family. Meridian is just a training ground for police and fire personnel. Then you have all these other local big business owners that don't want to have to come off the check books and pay people. So until we have a mayor that is going to do what is right and not be concerned about what the old money is doing nothing is going to change.
