Three west Alabama residents have been charged in a dragging incident in east Mississippi.
24-year-old Lenard Colvin, and cousins 20-year-old Kyrell Payne and 23-year-old Marcus Payne, all from Emelle, Ala., turned themselves in to Kemper County authorities Tuesday.
All are facing charges related to the dragging of a man from a car. It happened about a week and a half ago in Kemper County.
According to authorities, a fight occurred May 16 outside Oscar's Club near Scooba. From the club they say the fight continued a few miles away on a road near East Kemper Elementary.
"A weapon was pulled and three male subjects grabbed another subject at that point," said Kemper County Sheriff James Moore.
Moore said the suspects then grabbed the victim by his hands and dragged him as they drove for about a mile and a half down Binnsville Road. He said they finally released the man on Fleming Road. From there, authorities say the man crawled to a nearby house for help.
"To be pulled and drug by an automobile, that's something that we don't take that lightly," Moore said. "We're going to pursue that to the end and make sure justice is served."
Moore said he doesn't know what initiated the fight. But he said all of the men knew each other prior to the incident.
The suspects are charged with 'manifesting extreme indifference to human life'. That's a supplemental charge for aggravated assault. Bond for all of the men has been set at $2,500. The sheriff said more arrests are possible.
As for the victim, he says he is still hospitalized and facing even more possible surgeries.
