Meridian fire chief Bunky Partridge will retire in October.
After 29 years with the fire department, Partridge is accepting an appointment to lead Meridian's new Department of Homeland Security.
"I appreciate the honor and privilege of being the fire chief for the city of Meridian. It has been a great honor to me," said Partridge. "Talking about the good and bad years, all 29 of them were great years."
Partridge will be paid $60,000 in his new job. The city will pay a third of it. A federal grant will pay the balance.
