Escapees Captured!

Twenty-three-year-old Ronnie Daniels and 24-year-old Royal Manassa escaped from Sumter County Jail around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. They were captured shortly after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning less than 10 miles from the jail in a wooded area in Eppes.

According to Sheriff Johnny hatter the two escaped through a cell door, which had a bad lock.

"After an hour, time continued to go by and a train came through and a conductor spotted two black males on the tracks in Eppes. He alerted us and we went that way and carried the dogs. The dogs were able to pick up the escapees scent which led to the woods and that's where they were taken into custody," said Sheriff Johnny Hatter, Sumter County, AL.

At the time of their escape Daniels was jailed on a Capitol murder charge and Manassa on a charged for aggravated assault. Both now also face escape charges, and are now being held in the Sumter County Jail.
