Law enforcement in Clarke County apprehended a murder suspect from Kentucky over the weekend.
According to Clarke County sheriff Todd Kemp, Maurice Valentine's vehicle broke down Saturday in Quitman.
The suspect phoned his mother in Louisville, Kentucky. She apparently notified authorities there of his whereabouts. Detectives then called the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
"His reason for being here I don't know. We have I-59 that runs through the county, and we have U.S. 45, a major highway that goes to the Gulf Coast, to Mobile, Ala. Interstate 59 goes to the New Orleans area. I think he had gotten as far as he could go," Kemp said.
Quitman police officers Eric O'Neil and Billy Lewis took Valentine into custody without incident.
Valentine is wanted for rape and burglary, in addition to the murder charge. He has waived extradition.
