Meridian Bank Robbed

Around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, Meridian police responded to a robbery at Great Southern National Bank across from Bonita Lakes Mall.

According to officers, an unmasked Black male walked in the bank, claiming to have a gun in his pocket and demanding money. No one was injured.

After leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash, one witness remembered the tag number for the suspect's getaway car, a 1994 white Buick Le Sabre. With that information, officers were able to
track down the car owner's address on 26th Avenue at 20th Street, where the vehicle was spotted.

"About 10:22am patrol officers observed a vehicle that was described as the vehicle involved in the robbery," said Lt. Lee Currie, Meridian Police Dept.

Inside the vehicle were the three suspects. Prior to their arrests, Lt. Currie said an eyewitness noticed one of the suspects throwing items from the vehicle. With the investigation continuing, Currie said he cannot disclose what those items were. However, he did say that some of the money stolen was recovered.

Lt. Currie went on to say that it was the car tag number which helped crack the case.

"In our line of work, we rely on any information we can get and with the tag number and the efforts of the officers hopefully this case will soon come to a close," Currie said.

Great Southern was able to reopen later. Charges are expected to be filed.
