At least three people have died on Mississippi roadways and three others on Alabama highways this holiday period.
Two of the fatal accidents happened near Hattiesburg and the other near Batesville.
Meanwhile, troopers say there have not been any major accidents in the Meridian area.
"We're going to be out in full force," said Sgt. Eddie Michaels of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. "We have special radar details set up, and roadblocks. We have roadblocks assign. We also have some federal operations to put into place to ensure that motorists are safe on Mississippi roadways."
The holiday travel period began at 6pm July 3 and continues through Sunday, July 7, at midnight.
