Meridian's new mayor Cheri Barry says she has been working as mayor since she was elected several weeks ago, but now it is official.
Barry and the five city council members were sworn in during a ceremony at the Temple Theater Thursday night at 6 p.m. A large crowd turned out to watch the leadership change.
During her speech, Barry made it clear that she believes there are man made barriers around the city. However, she says these are some of the first issues she plans to tackle.
Barry's first day of work will be Monday. She says we can expect news about department head selection Tuesday after the city council meeting.
