Mississippi's jobless rate fell in October for the third consecutive month. The state's 5.7% jobless rate this October is 1.3% lower than last October's rate.
It was the nation's second-largest drop in unemployment over the year. Mississippi was one of 28 states whose unemployment rate improved in October.
Nationally, the jobless rate was relatively unchanged at 6%. The South had the lowest unemployment at 5.4%.
The lowest jobless rate was in South Dakota, which recorded 3.1%. Michigan and Oregon had the highest jobless rates, at 7.6% each.
