An aggravated assault charge against James Redmond of Meridian was changed to murder by the Lauderdale County Grand Jury on Friday.

Redmond allegedly doused his wife in gasoline and then ignited her with a cigarette. She later died from the second-degree burns.

Before she died Mrs. Redmond made the allegations in a written statement to police.

Redmond had been released on bail, but following the action by the Grand Jury he was taken back into custody and is currently being held in the Lauderdale County Jail without bond.
