As years past today was the busiest day of the year for post offices nationwide. This included the downtown post office in Meridian. With Christmas two weeks away, postal officials are offering advice to people who still need to mail packages in time for the big day.
"As of December 15th, you should switch from parcel post, which is the slowest and cheapest, to priority mail. Priority mail is two to three-day service anywhere in the country. However, as of the 22nd you'll need to swap to express mail. That's next day or overnight mail. It's a one to two day service," says Meridian Post Master Danny Swancey.
Swancey says the busiest delivery day for the post office will be Wednesday, December 17. Meanwhile here is another reminder: the deadline to mail Christmas letters or packages to troops overseas was last week.
