Fire Kills Three in Alabama

Three people were killed Sunday night when a fire destroyed a mobile home in the Marengo County community of Magnolia, about 30 miles southeast of Demopolis. The three people killed were not immediately identified.

Rescue workers described them as a 26-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man and a five-year-old boy.

Michael Lewis, a member of the South Marengo Rescue Squad, said the middle of the mobile home was gutted when he got to the scene. He said a three-year-old child survived the fire apparently because the woman handed him through a window to someone outside the house. Lewis said the fire was reported at about 9:00 p.m. Sunday.

Marengo County Sheriff Jesse Langley did not return phone messages seeking further comment.
