Choctaw Indian Fair

The 53rd Annual Choctaw Indian fair opened Wednesday on the grounds of the Pearl River Reservation.

This year's event features the traditional attractions, like Choctaw dancing and crafts. It will go through Saturday night.

Officials expect more than 30,000 people to attend.

Fair coordinator Cliff Saunders says this event is a big one for the tribe.

"It started as the green corn festival and has continued to grow from that traditional festival," said Cliff Saunders, fair coordinator. "It's just a chance to invite the public to see us and see how much the tribe has grown."

The Choctaw princess pageant will be held Wednesday night. Country music acts will perform Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
