At least two people died in roadway accidents in East Mississippi over the New Year's holiday period.
Nineteen-year-old Michael McLeod from Meridian died in a one-vehicle accident Friday night just outside Stonewall. The accident happened on Highway 513.
In a separate accident 66-year-old Kenneth Monk from Walnut Grove died in a two-vehicle accident in Newton County. The wreck happened Saturday afternoon on Highway 492 just outside Sebastapol.
Meanwhile in Alabama at least 17 people were killed on roadways over the New Year's weekend. This included a 32-year-old mother from Thomasville who died near her home. Investigators say Wendy Dunn's car overturned on Bashi Road in Thomasville.
The New Year's holiday period officially ended Sunday at midnight.
