Gov. Ronnie Musgrove said Thursday that he'll hear clemency appeals for condemned inmate Tracy Alan Hansen.

Hansen is scheduled for execution on July 17 for the murder of state trooper Bruce Ladner.

Musgrove will meet Friday with Catholic Bishop William Houck of Jackson, who wants Hansen's sentence commuted to life in prison.

The governor said he will listen to Houck and be open-minded. However, Musgrove supports the death penalty.

Musgrove added that he's received a clemency request from Hansen's attorney, Merrida Coxwell of Jackson.
