Preps for State of the Union

While his democratic challengers campaigned in Iowa and New Hampshire, President Bush spent Monday preparing for his State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Aides say it will outline progress on the economy, the war on Iraq and that the president will announce plans to boost the economy and the job market.

"The president wants to look presidential, above the political fray, at the same time his rivals are squabbling in the dust against themselves and flinging mud at each other and at him," said Norm Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute.

A new ABC News/Washington post poll shows that President Bush has a 66 percent approval rating in his handling of the war on terrorism, but below 40 percent approval rating on some domestic issues like health insurance issues and the budget deficit.
