Lee: "Higher Ed Has Been Hurt"

Dr. Charles Lee said he and other educators have been lobbying for increased funding, but he doesn't call it lobbying.

"We've been visiting with the members of the legislature, both those that are new and the continuing ones, to help them understand the complexity of our budget and also to help them understand that while we appreciate the non-recurring budget contingency funds they provided in the past, the continuation of those funds is absolutely essential if we're to maintain the present level of service and commitment," said Lee.

The Mississippi State University leader says he is encouraged by their response.

"Our conversations with individuals persuades us that there is a strong feeling the higher education has been hurt some by some of the cuts and it's time to try to level them out some," Lee said.
