Q.V. Sykes Dies

Lauderdale County Supervisor and longtime Meridian educator Q.V. Sykes died Sunday of lung cancer. He was 68.

Sykes had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. He had been in Anderson Hospital for several weeks.

Sykes was in his second term as a supervisor. He was a teacher at Carver Middle School and the old Harris High School for more than 30 years.

Sykes' son, Reggie, said his dad was always working to help the students and kids in Meridian.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the church. He will be buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
