Funeral services are set for Saturday in Newton for long-time Mississippi banker W.P. "Pat'' McMullan, who died Wednesday at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Webb Funeral Home in Newton with burial in Newton Masonic Cemetery.
McMullan had lived in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., since 1990. McMullan, a native of Lake, was a graduate from the University of Mississippi and earned a master's degree in banking and finance from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania.
McMullan began his banking career at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company in New York. In 1957, he was appointed state comptroller of the Mississippi Department of Bank Supervision. In 1973, he was named president and chief operating officer of Deposit Guaranty Corporation.
McMullan was also a member of the executive committee of the Democratic National Finance Council and served as state finance chairman of the 1976 and 1980 Jimmy Carter presidential campaigns as well as for the 1984 Walter Mondale campaign.
Survivors include two daughters, four sons and a brother.
