Professors at the University of West Alabama have endorsed a resolution by the faculty senate.
The chapter of the American Association of University Professors also passed a resolution, asking that several board members resign. It would end a dispute over the board chairmanship.
"If we lose our accreditation, and that's what probation means. It means you have a certain amount of time to resolve the issues," said Dr. Lauren Wells, president of the UWA chapter of the American Association of University Professors. "Then students could lose their credits. We would lose a huge amount of federal money. It would just be devastating to our university."
Gov. Bob Riley has made five new appointments to the board for terms that ended in December, but they will have to be confirmed by the state Senate, which convenes Feb. 4.
