Water Concerns Resident

Updated: Fri 5:55 PM, Aug 09, 2002

Some residents who live on and near Valley Road have experienced odd discolorations in their water this week. At one point it was pink and today, a darker color. Problems with the water over the years have prompted complaints from residents. Wanda Moore said she's had enough.

"We've been here almost four years and it's been going on for a long time," said Moore. "I'm scared to take a bath in it. I have two small kids and it needs to be cleared up. Because it's pink or it's this color. It's outrageous."

Southwest Lauderdale Water Association Manager Terry Boyette said the system has a high concentration of iron and the potassium used to treat it can discolor the water. He said southwest will use a $1 million grant and $600,000 loan to revamp treatment facilities at Valley Road and Meehan.
