Conviction, Sentence Stand

The Mississippi Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of Leon McCoy.

McCoy had appealed his 2002 conviction and 30-year mandatory sentence for sexual battery in Lauderdale County.

McCoy claimed he was denied a fair trial based on rulings and statements made by the presiding judge and that his lawyer was ineffective.

However, justices found no trial error. McCoy may take his case to the state supreme court.
