One person was killed in an early morning accident Monday.
Jonathan Tyler Herrington, 17, was killed instantly when the sports utility vehicle he was driving, collided head-on with an 18-wheeler. The accident happened shortly after six Monday morning on Highway 16 East in DeKalb.
No one else was seriously injured in the accident, and investigators are still looking into the cause.
In an unrelated mishap, Lauderdale County sheriff's deputies and emergency workers were called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident on Suqualena Road Sunday afternoon. The driver of the pickup was killed.
He was identifed as James Gee, age 17. He apparently lost control of the truck.
"He was pinned beneath the truck when the first emergency personnel arrived," said Sgt. Frankie Springer of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, "and they picked the truck up and got him out from under the truck."
The cause of that accident is under investigation.
