Technical Education Recognized

Meridian Community College was recognized Tuesday for its work in career and technical education.

The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors presented MCC officials with a proclamation marking the occasion.

School officials say it's important for the community at large to recognize the importance of such programs.

"If we don't have a good workforce, we're not going to grow as a community," said Dr. Scott Elliott, president of Meridian Community College. "We're not going to prosper and so we feel MCC is vital to the community in that regard."

Currently, MCC has 33 occupational training programs, from health care to home building. This summer, the college will add another program for commercial truck driving.
